A crane break down and large oil spill on Mona Vale Road in Terrey Hills has caused huge traffic cues just in time for peak hour on Wednesday afternoon.
The truck carrying a mobile crane broke down in the westbound lanes of Mona Vale Road near Kimbriki Road spilling oil onto the road.
The oil spill coated 100 metres of the roadway, bringing traffic to a halt just before 4pm.
Westbound traffic was queued for five kilometres.
Buses along route 196 and 197 are delayed by up to 30 minutes.
Emergency services and RMS are at the scene.
Motorists have been advised ot avoid the area and use Warringah Road and Wakehurst Parkway of Pittwater Road.
Traffic is heavy and motorists should expect significant delays.
