Recently crowned The Voice series two winner Anja Nissen is a stage natural.
She knows how to hit the right note and entertain a crowd at the same time.
But before she decided to go on the popular TV series, her friends and family were worried for her well-being.
‘‘I think they were more scared that it wasn’t a good idea,’’ Nissen said.
‘‘They just wanted to make sure that it was the right decision.’’
But the decision to compete in the competition has paid off for the 18-year-old from Yarramundi.
Last week she released her self titled album, Anja Nissen.
The album includes songs which she sang on the TV show as well as some new recordings.
‘‘It’s stuff they would have seen on the show and some songs that they haven’t heard before,’’ Nissen said.
‘‘I got to choose songs that I liked.’’
My Girls, co-written by Deltra Goodrem was tipped to be Nissen’s first single and does not appear on the album.
‘‘Will I Am decided that he wanted me to sing a song that he wrote,’’ she said.
‘‘But we haven’t had a chance to work on it.’’
To add to her busy schedule, she has also performed with other contestants on The Voice On Tour. She said it still felt weird to have ‘‘people want to pay to see her sing’’.
Although Nissen has already achieved star status, she said there was still more work to do.
‘‘I still haven’t made it yet,’’ she said.
‘‘I have to keep pushing myself because I can’t expect to stay in the industry.’’
Nissen’s career started after her mother noticed her talent for singing.
She started singing lessons at age six.
