A criminal case against a Melbourne aged care home where 45 coronavirus-infected residents died during outbreak in 2020 will drag into next year.
St Basil's Home for the Aged was charged by WorkSafe in July this year with nine breaches of Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
The home's operators are accused of failing to provide and maintain a safe working environment for employees, failing to enable workers to perform work safely, failing to ensure people other than employees were not exposed to health or safety risks, and failing to ensure the workplace and means of entering and exiting were safe and without risks to health.
There were 94 residents and 94 staff members who tested positive to COVID-19 during the 2020 outbreak, with 45 residents dying from virus-related complications.
A brief of evidence against St Basil's will be handed over to the home's lawyer Conor O'Bryan by September 26 this year, WorkSafe's lawyer Lachlan Cameron told Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.
The case will return to court for a committal mention on December 12.
