Gather your thongs, flags and sunnies - Australia Day is almost here!

January 26 is always a day for celebration in Fairfield and this year is no exception.

Even though COVID has once again wreaked havoc on bigger events, there is still a chance for locals to mark our national day in the region.

Fairfield Council will provide free pool entry at Fairfield Leisure Centre and Prairiewood Leisure Centre from 10am-4pm so residents can splash about and enjoy the water.

Free entry will also be provided at Fairfield Youth and Community Centre (on Vine Street, Fairfield) between 10am and 3pm.

Cabramatta's Whitlam Library will host 'Welcome to Jamming', an evening of musical exploration, running from 6pm-8pm. Registration is required. The event is for people aged 13 and above.

Aquatopia will also be open from 11am to 5.30pm.

Meanwhile former NRL player and Fairfield product Corey Payne will serve as the city's Australia Day ambassador for 2022.

"Australia Day is a chance to celebrate life in Australia, celebrate our city's diversity and reflect on our achievements and what it means to be part of this great nation," Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone said.

"I am pleased to announce that our Australia Day activities are able to go ahead this year and I encourage everyone to come and enjoy the activities and celebrations."
