I thank you for all your efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Our community has displayed great resilience and strength throughout these challenging times, particularly as our people have significantly felt the impacts of this most recent lockdown.
Our community overwhelmingly followed the health advice and this is evident in our high vaccination uptake. This has no doubt allowed for our community and NSW to see an easing of restrictions and the end of harsh and snap lockdowns. While I accept that vaccination is a matter of choice, I know that various decisions will need to be made with a view to the welfare of the wider community.
Some of these decisions may result in differing levels of personal freedoms. While technology such as a rapid antigen testing will play a part, vaccination is still the best way out of these challenging times.
Furthermore, I acknowledge the immense contribution of our front-line workers, our health, police and emergency service personnel, our shop-assistants, our cleaners, and all those whose efforts continue to help us get through this difficult period. As we see the end of lockdown, I encourage you to remain vigilant and continue to adhere to the advice of NSW Health.
Once again, thank you for playing an integral part in the re-opening of our state and the return of normality. As I will be retiring at the next election, I also take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me the enormous privilege of representing this vibrant and diverse community. Please stay safe and I hope 2022 is a better year for all.
