The son of slain Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh will be allowed unsupervised day leave from a low-security psychiatric facility as he progresses towards a possible full release back into the community.
Cy Walsh was detained until further order after the Supreme Court found he was mentally incompetent when he stabbed his father to death in July 2015.
He was later diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and granted supervised leave to treat the condition and progress his rehabilitation.
Last year he was allowed to make visits into the community in the company of just one support person who could include his mother.
On Tuesday the Supreme Court agreed that day leave could now be unsupervised.
The change was approved following the latest report from the 32-year-old's treating psychiatrist.
Wash was found not guilty of the murder of his 55-year-old father at the family's Adelaide home after the court accepted that he had undiagnosed and untreated schizophrenia at the time.
