Four residents of St George Aged Care at Bexley contract coronavirus from infected staff member

NSW chief health officer Kerry Chant revealed the outbreak on Tuesday, where 356 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and four deaths from the Delta strain were reported in the last 24 hour period.

Fifty-seven cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 157 remains under investigation.

"We have had a confirmed case at the St George Aged Care Centre in Bexley," Dr Chant said. "A confirmed case, a staff member, worked one shift and was infectious on one level of the facility, where four out of eight residents have tested positive.

"All eight of the residents were vaccinated and the staff member had received the first dose of vaccination. Appropriate care is being provided."

NSW Health and the Commonwealth Government have been "working to support" staff and residents at Masonic Village, at Edgeworth, and Hammond Care, at Waratah, after two workers tested positive to COVID-19.

No cases in staff or residents have been confirmed at this time.

Meanwhile a Sydney man who forced the northern NSW coastal town of Byron Bay into lockdown after travelling to the region with COVID-19 will face criminal action 'in due course', the health minister says.

The Byron Shire, Richmond Valley, Lismore, and Ballina Shire were placed into a snap seven-day lockdown on Monday night after the COVID-positive man from Sydney visited Byron Bay with two of his children.
