Turkish archer Mete Gazoz has ended the Tokyo Olympics campaign of two Australians en route to a gold medal.
Gazoz outclassed Taylor Worth 7-1 to advance to the quarter-finals on Saturday morning, extinguishing Australia's hopes of a medal in the sport at these Games.
Gazoz proceeded to defeat world No.1 Brady Ellison and Japan's Takaharu Furukawa before an epic 6-4 win over 2012 Olympic champion Mauro Nespoli in the gold-medal showdown.
The bespectacled 22-year-old's dominant run came two days after he ousted Queenslander Ryan Tyack 7-3.
Furukawa claimed bronze on the final day of archery competition at the Tokyo Olympics.
Gazoz, who lost a mixed team bronze-medal match to Mexico a week ago, secured Turkey's first Olympic medal in the sport.
Gazoz and Worth were locked at 1-1 after a tense opening set, which they both finished with a 10.
But Gazoz seized control of the contest with a perfect 30 in their second set.
Worth's first arrow in the third set drifted beyond the yellow and red circles, putting a major dent in his hopes of a comeback.
Gazoz had no issues closing out the round-of-16 clash, finishing with a total of seven 10s and five nines from his 12 arrows.
Worth and Tyack were part of the men's team that claimed bronze at Rio 2016, but in Tokyo they were eliminated in the opening round by eventual silver medallists Taiwan.
