Reading event is out of this world

Bossley Park Public School participated in the 21st National Simultaneous Storytime event recently.

The Australian Library and Information Association event sees a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator read simultaneously by children across Australia.

This year's book, Philip Bunting's Give me Some Space, was read by astronaut Dr Shannon Walker from the International Space Station.

As part of the event, the school's library monitors read the book to each of the classes. Pupils also participated in a poster competition.

"The library monitors all said they were nervous at the start but as they read they relaxed and enjoyed the experience. Each class was so well behaved answering questions asked by the library monitors," school librarian Cigdem Basak said.

"Classroom teachers remarked at how confident the library monitors were and how enjoyable it was to watch them taking on a different role. We are looking forward to many more days like this, especially during Book Week next term."
