Malcolm Turnbull has landed his first major political role since his ousting as prime minister, taking up a role heading the NSW government's new climate advisory board.
NSW Energy Minister Matt Kean announced Mr Turnbull's appointment to the Net Zero Emission and Clean Economy Board on Monday night.
The board will provide expert advice on opportunities to grow the economy while supporting the development of low emissions technology, Mr Kean said.
"The Board will bring cross-sector experts together to ensure we have the right policies and initiatives to give industry the confidence they need to invest, innovate and build a low-carbon future - right here in NSW," he said.
"As a former Prime Minister, Commonwealth Environment Minister and head of Goldman Sachs Australia, Mr Turnbull is ideally placed to help NSW reduce its emissions in ways that grow the economy," Mr Kean said.
Mr Turnbull took over from Tony Abbott as prime minister in 2015, before he lost the top job over energy policy and quit politics in 2018.
The board will also focus on ways to deliver low-carbon jobs to the Hunter and Illawarra regions.
The NSW Chief Scientist Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte will be the deputy chair, with the rest of the board members to be made up of representatives from the finance, power, technology and climate science industries.
