Fire crews contain Lansvale building fire

More than 30 firefighters utilising 10 vehicles, including two cherry picker ladder platforms, helped contain a fire from a commercial premises at Lansvale on Tuesday afternoon.

Crews from Smithfield, Cabramatta, Liverpool and Busby were among nine stations that responded to the fire at 2:23pm which caused the temporary closure of the Hume Highway from heavy smoke.

Around 70 people were evacuated from the premises and three people were evacuated from a nearby building as a precaution.

The quick response from firefighters ensured that the fire did not spread to neighbouring properties and the crews brought the fire under control shortly after 3pm.

Crews remain on scene mopping up and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
