Man and woman charged after boy, 5, allegedly assaulted with wooden stick

A man and a woman will face court today charged after a five-year-old boy was seriously injured during an alleged domestic-related assault at a Cabramatta home last night.

Police will allege in court that the child had been assaulted with a wooden stick.

Emergency services were called to a home on Chadderton Street about 9.50pm after reports of an assault.

Officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command attended and found the boy suffering serious injuries.

He was treated by paramedics before being taken to Liverpool Hospital before being transferred to the Children's Hospital at Westmead where he remains in a critical condition.

A 20-year-old old man and a 31-year-old woman - known to the child - were arrested at the home.

The man was taken to Fairfield Police Station, and the woman was taken to Liverpool Police Station.

He was charged with wounding a person with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm. She was charged with not providing for a child, causing danger of serious injury.

They were both refused bail to appear at Paramatta Bail Court today.
