NSW Health has today urged NSW residents not to travel to areas of Victoria where COVID-19 outbreaks have occurred in recent days.
NSW Health said that in line with the advice of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), it "strongly discourages" travel to and from areas of Victoria with COVID-19 outbreaks until it can be confirmed that community transmission is under control.
The Victorian government has identified the local government areas of Hume, Casey, Brimbank, Moreland, Cardinia and Darebin as the focus of current outbreaks of concern.
There are also locally acquired cases of COVID-19 reported from other areas of metropolitan Melbourne.
"We urge anyone who is planning to visit Victoria to keep up to date with NSW Health and Victorian Health travel advisories," NSW Health said.
It comes after NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian yesterday said NSW residents should not travel to Melbourne "unless they have to". She also urged people living in parts of Victoria that had outbreaks of coronavirus not to travel to NSW.
She had earlier ruled out closing the NSW/Victorian border, which remained open throughout the pandemic, although NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said some restrictions might be brought in.
