Nearly 100 community leaders and local residents braved the elements for the 2020 Lunar New Year Buddhist blessing last Sunday.
Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone, NSW Labor leader Jodi McKay, Cabramatta MP Nick Lalich and Fairfield MP Guy Zangari MP were among those to gather at Freedom Plaza, Cabramatta for blessings of good fortunes for people in the area.
Organised by the Chinese Association of Greater Western Sydney, Buddhist monks from Mingyue Lay Temple, Prajna Monastery, Ding Hui Monastery and Shaolin Zen Monstery were invited to lead the blessing chanting.
Venerable Shi Ming Shang of Mingyue Lay Temple gave blessing for good luck and good health to everyone in presence and for communities in China affected by the coronavirus. Ms McKay thanked the venerable leaded the ceremony, especially to Venerable Shi Ban Ruo who read the English Script.
"It is important for the community to celebrate this Lunar New Year as a traditional and cultural heritage," she said.
