Stratco has thrown its support behind National Patio Day, a major fundraiser for the Cancer Council.

CEO Ben Miels said Stratco's patios have provided vital shade to thousands of families over the years, allowing them to enjoy an Australian summer with family and friends in the comfort of their backyard.

"The fact that our patios also play a vital role in the prevention of skin cancer is extremely important to us," Mr Miels said.

"We are therefore very excited about the opportunity to partner with the Cancer Council - one of Australia's leading and most trusted charities - to raise awareness and much needed funding for this national affliction."

With two in three Australians diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70, it's also an opportunity to highlight the vital role sun protection plays in reducing skin cancer risk. "We know that over-exposure to UV is responsible for 99 per cent of all non-melanoma and 95 per cent of melanoma skin cancers," Cancer Council spokesman Russell Schrale said.

"By hosting an event on National Patio Day, you are not only supporting Australians impacted by cancer, but you are educating your family and friends on the important role sun protection plays in preventing skin cancer."

Not only will funds raised support those impacted by cancer, every $50 raised puts you in the draw to win either a Hafele Alfresco Kitchen, valued at $5000, or a $500 Stratco gift card to deck out your outdoor living.
