CECIL HILLS HIGH | Kids to stage a creative showcase at Club Marconi

The kids at Cecil Hills High are really creative.

It's clearly evident the moment you enter the school gates -- and it's hard to miss the incredible amount of creativity greeting you as you go through the doors.

Painted skateboards adorn the walls of the school office, sprayed garbage bins in the playground are there to take the litter so the yard is clean and street artworks are displayed proudly inside and outside classrooms throughout the school.

It's only natural that the music department, too, would be cultivating some young talent.

Last year, a group of year 8 students took on the challenge of writing and recording a song for a project-based learning task.

The resulting track was Oh, No, No, No and Tesia Dos Reis-Stec, now in year 9, was the vocalist and lyrics writer on it.

She remembers happily the time she spent in this class.

"I got the opportunity to make new friends and work with lots of other musical people," she said.

"It was really great to learn how to create music, and to really listen, as our song came to life over the two terms we spent making it and putting it together.

"I got to step outside my comfort zone by performing the song for the whole school -- which was a great learning experience -- and I'm really proud of what we did together as a group."

The song they wrote and recorded is available as a free download here.

To celebrate the creative talents at the school, the Creative & Performing Arts faculty is displaying works by students from year 7 through to year 12.

Our annual art exhibition, the Cecil Hills High School Showcase, opens on Thursday, August 29, at 5.30pm, on level 1 at Club Marconi, followed by an evening of performances by year 12 music students, from 6pm to 8.30pm.
