Sydney topped the country's rankings for the cost of construction, according to Arcadis's International Construction Costs Report this year.
New York was the world's most expensive, then San Francisco and Hong Kong. In Australia, Sydney at 34, was followed by Brisbane (56), Melbourne (61) and Perth (62).
The report detailed the relative cost of construction in 100 leading cities, 50 added this year, including Perth.
Building costs in Australia were heavily affected by the economy, which continued to lose momentum since the latter half of last year when building activity fell at its fastest rate in nearly four years, driven by the steep drop in the residential sector.
