Sydney will shiver through what is expected to be one of the coldest weekends of the year.

With a predicted low of seven degrees on Sunday morning, the city will feel even colder as winds pick up strength from Friday.

Saturday morning will be slightly warmer, but along with Sunday, will both reach a top of only 16 degrees.

The sunny days will be deceiving - step into the shade and you will probably feel like curling up next to a fireplace.

A sudden rush of frosty air is coming from Victoria, which felt the blast of the cold front earlier in the week.

If you're headed down to the snow fields for the school holidays, it's sure to be worth the trip. Falls of fresh powder is likely to hit some of Australia's ski resorts by the start of next week.
