The Marconi Stallions have advanced to the FFA Cup round of 32 for the third time with a 3-1 win against former NSL rival Sydney Olympic at Belmore Sports Ground on Wednesday night.
The Stallions, who lost 3-1 to Olympic last month in the league, bounced back with a clinical performance with James Andrew, Marko Jesic and Marty Fernandez netting goals for the visitors.
Jesic's goal - one of two from the set piece, was the highlight with his free-kick giving Marconi a 2-0 lead at the break and despite conceding a late consolation goal to Jason Madonis the result was never in doubt.
The win makes it two in four days for Peter Tsekenis' team who got back on track in the NPL 1 competition with a 5-2 win against the in-form Rockdale on Sunday.
Marconi will be joined in the final 32 by Sydney United 58 who survived a scare against NPL 2 NSW Men's outfit Northern Tigers.
The Reds needed extra time to secure the 3-2 win at Sydney United Sports Centre with Patrick Antelmi nailing a spot kick in the 93rd minute to book their ticket into the final phase of the FFA Cup tournament for the fifth time in six years.
In a see-sawing fixture, Tariq Maia restored parity for the hosts after Shervin Adeli's gave the Tigers the early lead. The teams traded goals in the second half as well with Rhys Williams' header sending the game into extra time after Peter Simonoski gave the Reds the lead for the first time with eight minutes to go.
The round of 32 fixtures will be played over three match days (Tuesday or Wednesday) between July 23 and August 7.
The draw will take place on Wednesday, June 26.
