Southern Districts Soccer Football Association women's technical director Catherine Cannuli said it was a "great night" for the association as more than 100 females participated in Fairfield's Female Football Week last Tuesday at Ultimate Soccer. More than 1300 female players are registered in the district with girls as young as six able to play in all-girls teams.

"It's come a long way," Cannuli said. "Numbers have definitely increased in the past 12 to 24 months."

Cannuli was appreciative of the many sponsors that assisted with the activities.

"Thank you to Ultimate Soccer for hosting us and providing all the fields, Western Sydney Wanderers FC for the donation of gear and providing us with the dribble zone, Football NSW for all your support for the event and also providing the kick zone," she said.

This year Female Football Week ran from May 25 to June 2 in the lead up to the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

"A big thank you to our sponsor Oporto for the support of grassroots football in the local area. The kids loved all the giveaways and the hydration station provided on the night."
