Woman charged after baby left alone in Cabramatta unit

A woman will appear in court today charged over allegedly leaving a baby girl alone in a unit in Cabramatta.

About 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday, May 22), police were called to a unit on Fisher Street, after Sheriff's Officers found a three-month-old girl in a bassinet. No one else was home at the time.

The child was taken to Westmead Hospital for treatment and a child at risk notification was made.

About 1pm the same day, a 28-year-old woman attended the unit and was arrested.

She was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad with abandoning a child under the age of seven cause danger serious injury (DV).

Police will allege in court that the woman left the baby unattended for several hours.

The woman was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday, May 23).

Alternate care arrangements have been made for the girl.

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
