POLICE | Wetherill Park police charge 7th man after already seizing syndicate's $14m in drugs, $0.6m in cash, 11 guns

Wetherill Park investigators' proactive police work resulted in a man in Bankstown court yesterday, Wednesday -- the seventh person charged after extensive investigations by specialist police into the supply of firearms and drugs across the south-west.

In September last year, police from Wetherill Park region-enforcement squad began Strike Force Domes to investigate the trafficking of firearms and drugs in this region.

Between February and April this year, officers attached to Wetherill Park RES, with help from BassHill RES, searched premises at SouthHurstville, Bankstown, Bass Hill, CondellPark and Revesby.

All up, investigators seized drugs with an estimated street value of $14 million, more than $600,000 in cash, 11 firearms and more than 600 rounds of ammunition.

Six people are already before the courts after having been charged.

One of the firearms seized in the February searches was a Glock 9mm semi-automatic pistol which was examined for traces of DNA.

As as result, police issued an arrest warrant for a man, 29, who had links to the six charged people in the criminal syndicate.

About 5.30pm yesterday, Wednesday, May 15, officers attached to the Police Transport Command's South & South-West Action Group stopped a Mercedes SUV on Fairford Road at Bankstown and spoke to the driver, a PicnicPoint man, 29.

He was arrested once it was determined he was allegedly the person wanted under the outstanding warrant.

He was taken to Bankstown police station and the Wetherill Park RES investigators attended.

He was charged with having an unregistered pistol. Bail was refused and he was due in Bankstown court later that day.
