Local artists are being encouraged to apply for the 2020 Artist in Residence program at Fairfield City Museum & Gallery (FCMG).
The residency, which goes from March through to June 2020, includes $5000 towards artist fees, $1000 towards materials and a dedicated studio from which to work. It will culminate with a three month exhibition in the Stein Gallery in late 2020 to early 2021.
Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone said council is committed to strengthening the cultural and creative life of Fairfield
"Our Artist in Residence program is a wonderful opportunity for artists to gain a rewarding experience at FCMG and immerse themselves into our colourful and diverse City," he said.
"Council is proud to be able to provide an opportunity for artists at all experience levels to harness their craft in a tranquil studio environment, helping lead to their future success.
"The residency gives artists the chance to engage with our vibrant and diverse community, providing inspiration for their artistic practice and guiding what work they will later exhibit at FCMG.
"Former Artist in Residence Linda Brescia (2018) drew much inspiration from the community whilst participating in the program, later exhibiting an outstanding collection of works that spoke to the many unique people who live and work in our fantastic city."
Previous Artist in Residence include two-time Archibald Prize finalist Loribelle Spirovski. This year's resident Tracey Clement is working with the community in a dialogue about the environment and the future of Fairfield for her solo exhibition later this year.
The application process consists of an Expressions of Interest round followed by a selective invitation by a small panel of industry professionals, with the winner being announced in the first week of July. Applications close at midnight June 23.
