Southern Districts Softball Association hosts Masters tournament

Southern Districts Softball Association's annual Masters tournament at the weekend proved one thing: age is truly just a number.

The rain cleared for 15 teams (nine women and six men) to showcase their skills in more than 60 games at the Jacquie Osmond Softball Complex on Saturday and Sunday.

Local teams Warriors and United Raptors played-off for the gold medal in the Men's A-grade competition with the Raptors winning a tight game 11-7.

It was another local team winning the Men's B-grade with the Bashers defeating the Bombers.

In the Ladies A-grade, Mumma Bears dominated the Phoenix 14-1 in the final to win. Breakaway beat local team Runamux 5-1 to win bronze.

The Warrior Misfits bandied together to win the Ladies B-grade with a comprehensive 13-0 win against the Condors in the final. The Angels defeated the Mariners 14-6 to win the bronze medal.

SDSA president Kathy Warburton said it was a "really successful" weekend on and off the diamond.

"The weekend was a successful fundraiser for Bowel Cancer Australia in honour of Trever Read; a long term player who sadly passed away last year from Bowel Cancer. Over $1100 was raised over the weekend with fundraising coordinated by the Bashers club," she said.
