Marconi stun Sydney United 5-0

Marconi Stallions coach Peter Tsekenis has praised his team's "clinical" 5-0 demolition of neighbours Sydney United 58 at Marconi Stadium on Saturday Night.

Marconi dominated the contest from start to finish with new recruit Mitch Mallia opening the scoring inside the first 60 seconds courtesy of a perfect Anthony Frangie cross.

Braces to strikers Marko Jesic and Mirjan Pavlovic formed part of a stunning 31-minute opening blitz as Marconi made it consecutive wins in the NPL 1 competition.

"Some things haven't been going our way but I gave them certain instructions and they were just clinical," Tsekenis said.

"I was blown away with the effort, sticking to the game plan and it makes a difference when you take your chances.

"Against our arch-rivals it is always a big game but when you are on-song, the ball goes in the back of the net and it probably could have been more. We consolidated in the second half but I thought that we dictated terms for the whole game."

Marconi's win moves them onto nine points and into the top-five for the first time this season.

For the Reds, it was their second loss in three games having conceded 10 goals in that period.

"We came out in second-gear. We copped the first goal in under a minute, then there was a second goal and then we went into a shell. At halftime I said go out and show some character and we tried to play better football," Sydney United 58 coach Miro Vlastelica said.

  • This Saturday Marconi host the bottom placed Sutherland Sharks FC at Marconi Stadium (7pm). On Monday, Sydney United 58 play Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC at Sydney United Sports Centre (3pm).
