A magic strike from Matthew Sim and another superb display in goal by Thomas Manos have combined to deliver Sydney United 58 FC their first win of the year.
The Reds 1-0 win against bogey team Blacktown City at Lily Homes Stadium keeps their unbeaten start to the season alive and are the only team not to concede a goal.
That's largely in part to Manos who produced three saves in the closing stages to deny City a point.
A sublime curling dead ball from Sim proved to be the difference with his left-footed shot from the edge of the box finding the left hand corner of the net just after half-time.
Coach Miro Vlastelica said getting the three-points at against a "tough" Blacktown team was a great result going into their clash against the undefeated Wollongong.
"We could have won by more in the end but we didn't take the chances we created and we need to work harder on that," he said.
Meanwhile, the Marconi Stallions are still searching for their first win of the new season after losing 2-1 to Rockdale at Marconi Stadium on Saturday night.
Richie Cardozo put the home team in front when he chipped the goalkeeper midway through the first half but goals to former United 58 star Panny Nikas and man of the match Matthew Lecce secured the come-from-behind win for the visitors.
This Saturday the Stallions play Sydney FC's NPL team at Lambert Park. Kick-off: 7pm.
