POLICE NEWS | An expensive evening drive through Fairfield

At 11.30pm on Monday, February 4, police sighted a vehicle proceed through a red light at the intersection of Lawson Street and Vine Street Fairfield.  When stopped police observed two children (aged four and five)  along with an adult male unrestrained in the back seat.  The 37-year-old female driver from Punchbowl received the following infringement notices:

  • Proceed through red light $448.
  • Passenger not restrained $337.
  • Passenger 4-7years not restrained $337.
  • Passenger 4-7 years not restrained $337.

The adult passenger in the back seat also received an infringement for $337.

Man charged following vehicle crash

At 1pm on Saturday, February 9, an accident occurred at the roundabout on Bareena Street, Canley Vale near the railway overpass.  The man exited his vehicle and approached the other vehicle, punching the vehicle.  The manreturned to his vehicle obtaining a steering wheel lock damaging a side mirror of the vehicle, then opened the car door and hit he driver in the arm. 

Police said the man then pulled the steering lock apart, throwing the two separate parts at witness’ vehicles causing damage. The 51-year-old man from Lansvale was arrested at the scene and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of damaging property.

He will appear at Fairfield Local Court on March 11. 

Pair charged with mail theft 

As a result of an investigation into mail theft in the Carramar area during January this year, on February 6 police arrested a 23-year -old woman and a 20-year-old man from an address in Villawood.

The female was charged with larceny and a court warrant. The man was charged with larceny and goods in custody suspected of being stolen.

Drugs charges

At 2.45pm on Wednesday, February 6, police conducted a vehicle stop on Queen Street, Canley Heights. Police located an amount of heroin and a 38-year-old man from Granville was charged with possessing prohibited drug and will appear at Liverpool Local Court on February 18.
