Fabian Monge is a proud western Sydney boy. So the prospect of playing for the Western Sydney Wanderers is extra special.

The 17-year-old was last week promoted from the Wanderers Academy to the A-League on a scholarship contract for two years.

Monge, a Marconi Stallions junior, has excelled in the junior ranks scoring on his Wanderers debut in the Y-League and helping the red and blacks to consecutive under-18s grand finals.

Championship qualities: Fabian Monge was a vital member of the Y-League premiership winning team in 2018 and on their run to the grand final in 2019.

“To represent my local club and wear the red and black is a real honour, everyone in the team has been really welcoming,” he said.

“I’m a local, I’m from Bossley and I went to Bossley Park High School.Transitioning from the Wanderers Academy to the A-League will help continue my development and I’m really excited for the challenge.

“I know it’s a big step, but I’m ready to put in the work and I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”

The A-League team returned to the winner’s circle with a 2-0 win against Central Coast on Saturday night.

Monge has nine rounds left to impress coach Markus Babbel to earn his A-League debut and join the likes of fellow boom rookies Tate Russell and Tass Mourdourkoutas who have made their senior debuts this season.
