History was made at Marconi Stadium on Thursday night with Matildas superstar Sam Kerr becoming the W-League’s all-time leading goalscorer in Perth Glory’s 5-1 win against the Western Sydney Wanderers.
After several near-misses, Kerr sidefooted home a cross in the second half to eclipse Michelle Heyman’s record and net her 64th goal in the competition.
Goal No.65 came not long after as Perth scored three-goals in the final 20 minutes for their fifth win of the year.
In a free-flowing contest, Leena Khamis' header restored parity for the home team after an early Perth Goal but they couldn’t capitalise on several chances and they were made to pay when Katie Naughton scored to make it 2-1 at the break.
The second half was all the visitors with Kerr (two) and Rachel Hill finding the back of the net.
Perth’s crushing win temporary elevates them to first place on the ladder with one round remaining. It sets up a mouth-watering clash with Melbourne Victory next week to decide the premiership.
For the Wander Women, it was their ninth loss of the season and leaves them in last spot on five points.
The Wanderers finish their W-League campaign against Newcastle on February 2.
