Over 100 members of Sydney West Riders motorcycle community are expected to ride together to raise awareness and funds for Fusion Western Sydney, a national youth and community non-profit that’s been around for 60 years with a vision to see communities with thriving young people and families.
The ride will be on Sunday, January 20, and motorcyclists will meet at Hungry Jacks Cabramatta at 7.30am, before starting their cruise towards KangarooValley about 8.30am.
“Each year we do a ride to support a youth cause,” group co-founder KevinLam said. “Given that many problems faced by adults tend to escalate from one’s experience as a youth, it’s crucial that ongoing backing for non-profit organisations like Fusion get support.
“If we can make a difference to a youth early in their adulthood, we ultimately affect their destiny to pursue endless possibilities and dreams.”
Fusion Western Sydney, based at StMarys, provides preventative and resilience-building programs for vulnerable and at-risk youth. Each week their chaplains, youth workers and officers work with hundreds of young people in high schools and after-school programs at Cobham Juvenile Justice Centre, Bidwill Youth Outreach and Willmot Outreach and through skills-based training including Fusion Coffee and Fusion Radio.
"In the past we’ve raised funds for youth organisations such as Youth off the Streets, WhiteLion, Inspire180 and KidsUnderCover. Many problems faced by adults today tend to escalate from early experiences. Early intervention is needed in many cases,” co-founder. StevenLam said.
Brothers Kevin and Steven Lam agree that while they’re excited for the upcoming ride, they’re honoured to contribute to Fusion’s life-changing work.
Sydney West Riders is a social motorcycle community for learners through to fully-licenced riders of all ages who run weekly Wednesday-night rides to a range of other events.
Their vision is to unite riders across Sydney.
The group was recently selected as one of the newest ride-day providers at Western Sydney’s new motorsport circuit, LuddenhamRaceway at Penrith.
The plan is to inspire street riders to become track riders to encourage motorcyclists to unleash their riding ambitions in a safer environment than on the streets. At their recent event just after Christmas, $470 was raised and given to Fusion.
Through a collaborative effort with mazny partners, the community aims to raise $2000 from the Start of Year Ride.
As part of the fundraising, the riders will also sell raffle tickets on the event day. Up to 10 prizes are up for grabs, including a Surface tablet, go-karting tickets, gym passes and motorcycle service.

About Sydney West Riders
Sydney West Riders is a social motorcycling community established in 2012. It runs weekly night rides on Wednesdays and special events like charity rides and food meets. The group's active communication is through Facebook, where riders meet one another, participate in discussions, organise rides and buy/sell motorcycles and accessories. Our vision is to bring riders together and build a platform for their riding journey. Our aim is also to provide positive publicity of motorcycling. This is achieved through supporting local organisations, charities and individuals. Through our objectives, we hope to empower and inspire others, especially youth.
