The first day of summer shone bright for the Fairfield Liverpool Lions who produced their best day of cricket for the season.
The home team won the toss and probably would have planned to set up a big total. But cricket is a funny game. Plan A failed thanks to Thomas Ortiz (4-31) and Peter Francis (5-28) who skittled the Lions for 129.
Raveesh Srivastava (47) and Jeremy Maher (36) dug into give the Lions a fighting chance. And they took it.
Harmon Sandhu (3-16), Chad Sammut (2-25) and Arjun Nair (2-8) combined to leave the visitors reeling at 9-72 – still 57 runs behind.
The Lions continued the momentum on Sunday with wins against Blacktown and Western Suburbs to round out their Twenty20 Cup campaign.
