Cameron Park in Wellington held a crowd of eager taste-testers during the second annual Cob Loaf Festival.
Organised by Cob Loaf Federation President Andrew McKay, the festival offered contestants a chance to test their culinary skills against competitors who’d travelled from as far as Sydney to put their baking talents on the line.
Contestants entered into categories celebrating traditional cob loafs such as cheese and bacon and spinach, as well as more unorthodox creations like cold cobs, freestyle and the controversial dessert cob category.
Welligton’s Natacha Richards even created an adult’s only, alcohol infused Banana and Bailey’s Cob Loaf this year.
Wellington resident Michael Thomas took home the highest honours however, winning the event overall with his salmon cob loaf creation that scored a nearly perfect 476 out of 500 points.
Entrants were judged on appearance, taste and creativity.
Organisers moved the event from it’s scheduling alongside the ‘WomDomNom’ four-day river paddle in order to accommodate heightened interest in the festival after entrants and their recipes went viral across the internet.
