LETTERS TO THE EDITOR | End animal testing of cosmetics

For World Animal Day, The Body Shop brought 8.3 million signatures against cosmetic animal testing to the UN, after more than 30 years of advocacy between us and Cruelty Free International. We call on the UN to end this testing, everywhere and forever. It’s cruel, old-fashioned, expensive and inefficient. Cruelty-free companies use innovative and effective cruelty-free ingredients in all products, all tested through non-animal methods. Yet 80 per cent of countries still have not made it illegal. More than 500,000 animals each year are used in this. Standardising safety testing would allow companies to avoid bureaucracy and test duplication.
