‘Stay on top of your finances’: Free financial workshop at Fairfield

Do you want to get on top of their finances? Do you want to learn how to manage your money and how to reduce debt?

Then the Salvation Army’s Moneycare financial counselling and capability service’s free information day is for you.

The event will be held at The Salvation Army (473 Hamilton Road, Fairfield) on Wednesday, October 17 from 10am to 2pm to help people on the road to financial wellbeing.

The head of the Moneycare service, Tony Devlin, said financial counsellors can provide options that are safer and more effective to risky forms of borrowing or going to commercial providers for help.

“Pay day loans and consumer leases (goods rental) are often acquired when people find themselves in financially vulnerable situations. However, these arrangements will usually just intensify the problem,” he said.

“Moneycare financial counsellors can be powerful advocates. Not only can they help you address your current situation, they also can help you build longer term capability and resilience, so you can stay on top of your finances.”

Residents are also being encouraged to download the The Salvation Army’s free ‘You’re the Boss’ app.  The financial literacy education program provides financial tips, information and other resources to help you stay on top of your money.
