Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone said Grandparents Day is a chance to recognise the older people in our lives for the “invaluable contributions” they make to their families and communities.
“More and more we are seeing grandparents stepping in the role of caretakers to their grandchildren; sharing stories and engaging in fun activities, helping socialise children, teaching them empathy and character while providing an unconditional love not found elsewhere,” mayor Carbone said.
Fairfield Council’s free Grandparents Day event will be held at St Johns Park Reserve, Edensor Road, St Johns Park on Sunday, October 28. The event – a chance to celebrate connections between the generations – will include a free sausage sizzle, light refreshments, activities, exhibitions and live entertainment. Families are encouraged to bring along hats, umbrellas, chairs and picnic blankets.
“I would encourage all families to come and enjoy the free activities,” mayor Carbone said.
The event runs from 10am to 2pm.
