Vanessa Maguire has come a long was since she used toys as a tennis racquet as a toddler.

Now the Fairfield West resident has her own racquet – and she’s not afraid to use it.

The 12-year-old won the recent consolation final at the Macarthur Junior Tournament. She won five of her six matches en route to the title which she won 6-3, 6-0.

It follows on from her success at the under-12s Nepean Round Robin event last year.

The Fairvale High School, who lists Serena Williams as her favourite player, trains twice a week at the Marconi Tennis Academy with coach Joel Liberatore.

She is currently undefeated this term at the club’s Saturday competitions and will compete at the Picton and Camden Wimbledon junior round robin on Sunday.
