Nothing could rain on the parade of festival-goers who flocked to the seventh Parklands Food Fest on Saturday.
MasterChef Australia co-host, Matt Preston headlined the festival at Lizard Log in Western Sydney Parklands giving two live cooking demonstrations featuring recipes from his most recent book, Yummy, Quick and Easy.
“I’m a food nerd and so there’s nothing I like more than hanging out at an event like Parklands Food Fest and talking food and cooking with other food lovers,” he said.
Mr Preston said planning is the key to creating healthy meals in a time-poor society.
“Find recipes where the prep is minimal and the oven does the work. Winter braises and tray bakes are a great example of this,” he said. “Fall in love with vegetables. Steer clear of refined sugar and flours.”
In a first for the event, fruit and vegetables grown on farms in the neighbouring Western Sydney Parklands Urban Farms Precinct were available for purchase in specially-packed take-home boxes.
Other highlights of the event included the cooking demonstrations by The Shahrouk Sisters, winners of Nine’s Family Food Fight and ‘local heroes’, Joe and Matt Papandrea.
The event featured 50 food and drink stalls offering street food, traditional cuisine and desserts from across western Sydney.
