Bus tour: Members of the The Macquarie Society will be joining the Moorebank Heritage Group for a tour of some of the colonial buildings of the Governor Macquarie era on Thursday, August 23. Hello there: Possums at Prospect - Stories of ReWilding an Urban Creek will be presented by Conservation Volunteers Australia on Thursday, August 23 from 5.30pm behind Long Street Park, 65 Long Street, Smithfield. Conservation Volunteers have been regenerating Prospect Creek in Smithfield for years, removing rubbish and weeds and planting native flowering trees. In 2017, with continued funding from Cumberland Council and arant from the Granville Diggers Club, a habitat regeneration project was launched. Registration is essential. Gala fundraiser: Stars of Sydney South West – Dance for Cancer will see nine ‘stars’ join with dance instructors to learn a routine while fundraising to help people in Sydney’s south-west affected by cancer at the Grand Paradiso, Fairfield, from 6.30pm on Friday, August 10. Golden days: Holroyd High School, 7 Cumberland Road, Greystanes will celebrate its 50th birthday jubilee with an open day on Saturday, August 11. Everyone is welcome to join in the celebrations when the gates open from 10am-3pm, especially past students and staff. There will be a formal welcome with speeches and entertainment in the gym at noon. Each block will be dedicated to a decade with an open classroom showcasing photos, news events and memorabilia from that time. All original photos, old uniforms and other memorabilia will be on display in the library. Food and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the day.
Wellness group: For women who have had cancer or have had a friend or family member affected by cancer every Monday during school terms from 10.30am-1pm at Fairfield Women’s Health Service, Arthur West Memorial Hall, McBurney Street, Cabramatta.
