New details have emerged after a heavily pregnant woman had her handbag stolen in Canley Vale on Monday.
Between 5pm and 5.20pm (Monday, July 9), a 23-year-old woman, who is 9-months pregnant, was on a train at Canley Vale Railway Station when a man entered the carriage.
The man allegedly grabbed her handbag and jumped out of the train and the woman tripped as she jumped out after him, injuring her knees.
A man came to the woman’s aid and started chasing the offender down Third Avenue. His wife, who had come to pick him up from the station, saw him chasing the thief and started following in her car.
She picked her husband up and they continued pursuing the thief as he ran down Prospect Road. They lost sight of him as he started kicking in fences and running through backyards.
Police were called and attended Canley Vale Railway Station where they spoke with the pregnant woman. She was taken to Liverpool Hospital where she was admitted to the Birthing Unit for treatment to cuts and abrasions, and observation. She has since been released.
The man has been described as being aged in his 20s with a medium build and short brown hair. He was wearing a grey tracksuit top with blue stripes, and dark coloured track pants.
Detectives from Fairfield City have commenced inquiries and would like to speak with anyone who may have information that could assist.
