A 53-year-old Smithfield man has been charged with break, enter and steal and four counts of malicious damage of property following a break-in at Mounties Bowling Club on Thursday morning.

The club – located on the corner of Ulverstone and Lawson Streets in Fairfield –sustained minor damage but is operating as normal. The offender made a failed attempt to take club property.

Closed-circuit television footage operators alerted Fairfield City police who arrested the man on the premises.

Mounties Group president Kevin Ingram said: “The safety of our members, guests, staff and facilities is of paramount importance to Mounties Group, which is why we ensure our surveillance systems are in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We would like to thank Fairfield police for their assistance in this matter. It is business as usual at Mounties Bowling Club and we anticipate minimal disruption to the services on site.”

The man has been bail refused to appear at Fairfield Local Court on June 14.
