Fairfield’s “mini sporting precinct” is now complete.

A refurbished amenity building was the final stage of the $500,000 makeover of St Johns Park which now includes a 750-metre circuit path, shelter, new outdoor fitness equipment and four upgraded tennis courts.

The upgraded amenities building is complete with a new roof and toilets, stainless steel cupboards and windows.

The work is part of Council’s $15 million investment in maintaining and embellishing the community’s open space assets including parks, reserves, play equipment and sports fields each year.

Fairfield mayor Frank Carbone said there is something for everyone at St Johns Park – including a soccer/cricket field.

“Residents of all ages can enjoy the facilities at St Johns Park,” Mayor Carbone said.

“Whether as part of organised team sport, individual training and exercise, walking and jogging or for a game of tennis, everyone can come to the one spot at St Johns Park.

“It’s a great place for families and friends to come together and get out and about and be healthy. St Johns Park also has mature trees, so there’s plenty of shade to watch a game or have a coffee and a chat with friends.

“With backyards getting smaller, it’s more important than ever for council to provide a variety of recreational areas and opportunities for residents.”
