Police have charged a man after he was allegedly found to be in possession of a replica pistol and other prohibited items in a carpark at Canley Vale yesterday.
About 1.25pm (Monday, March 5), officers from the Proactive Crime Team at Fairfield City Police Area Command were patrolling a carpark on Clifford Avenue, Canley Vale.
Officers stopped and spoke with two men before searching their vehicle.
During the search police will allege they found a satchel bag containing what appeared to be a loaded pistol, a silencer, a knife hidden in the tube of a pen, and a small amount of drugs.
Officers seized the items and the two men were arrested and taken to Fairfield Police Station.
One of the men aged 33, from Chester Hill, was charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess prohibited drug, goods in custody and having custody of a knife in a public place.
He was given conditional bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court on Monday, March 26.
The second man was released without charge.
Further examination of the firearm found it to be a replica pistol that closely resembled a functioning firearm.
