Make it merry: DIY festive fun this month at Bunnings Warehouse stores across the region with a series of free workshops every Saturday and Sunday at 11am, 12.30pm and 2pm. Designed for all ages, the classes will provide Christmas DIY projects and outdoor entertaining workshops to ensure your space is well prepared for visitors. Details:

Open mic night: Lost in Books, Shop 2, 40 Harris Street, Fairfield presents Midsummer, an open mic evening for the local community, on Thursday, December 14 from 5.30pm-7pm. It’s a night of performances by musicians, storytellers and entertainers. Entry is free and the cafe will be open. Details:

U3A Liverpool: Liverpool University of the Third Age is for those aged over 50 and offers classes in art and craft, computers, creative writing, Euchre, French, gadgets for seniors, history, meditation, Rummikub, Tai-Chi, Yogalates, walking and much more. Makers’ market: Lost in Books, Shop 2, 40 Harris Street, Fairfield is holding a Makers’ Market from 11am-3pm on Saturday, December 16. There will be beautiful handmade products from local artists and makers on sale; food and coffee; giveaways, raffle prizes, and 10 per cent off children’s books for members. Christmas carnival: Mounties, 101 Meadows Road, Mount Pritchard, will host two community events to mark the festive season. On Saturday and Sunday, December 16 and 17 there will be a Christmas Carnival from 10am-4pm with rides, live entertainment, a petting zoo, and the chance to meet Father Christmas. On Monday, December 18 from 7.30pm there will be Christmas carols at Mounties Oval from 7.30pm with special guest Tim Omaji. There will be toy giveaways, food and fireworks. Details:


Stitch one, talk two: Calling crafty types. Take your needles, hooks, thread, wool, whatever it is you work with, and enjoy a social morning’s stitch and chat with other creative folk. All skill levels welcome. Book chat: Read great books and make new friends when you join the book club which meets at Liverpool library on the third Tuesday of each month, 1.30pm-2.30pm. Enjoy a lively discussion with fellow book lovers in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The monthly schedule of books will include a mix of contemporary fiction, classics, biography, non-fiction.


Service reunion: The 50th Anniversary Reunion of 11th Intake of National Servicemen -  February 1968-February 2018 - will be held at Kingscliff Bowls Club from Wednesday, February 7 to Friday, February 9. All 11th Intake plus partners and family are welcome. The format is a casual gathering on the Wednesday, a formal dinner on the Thursday and then another catch-up on the Friday.
