Man charged with shoplifting

A 39 -year-old Sadlier man has been charged with shoplifting after allegedly placing items into the front of his pants and walking out of a shop.

About 2.45pm on April 15, the man entered Bunnings Warehouse at Bonnyrigg and removed a pair of NWS heavy duty side cutter 200mm pliers and a pair of WIHA long nose 200mm pliers totaling $103.95 from the shelf.

As the man had his wallet and phone in his hand, he placed the items into the front of his pants and continued walking around the store. As the man has made his way out the exit, he was stopped by security.

The man pulled the items from the front of his pants and was escorted back into the store where police were called.

Upon police arrival, the man has advised that despite the weight and bulkiness of the items down the front of his pants he forgot they were there. He was charged with shoplifting and is due to appear before Fairfield Local Court on May 8.

Mid-range drink-driving charge

About 2.25am on Friday, April 14, police were conducting high visibility patrols of the Smithfield area when they observed a vehicle swerving between lanes.

Police have stopped the vehicle for the purposes of a random breath test and spoken with the driver, a 36- year-old Merrylands West man.

Police submitted the driver to a road side breath test, which returned a positive result. The driver was conveyed to Fairfield Police Station for the purposes of breath analysis which returned a mid range PCA reading of 0.118.

The driver has been charged with mid-range drink-driving and is due to appear before Fairfield Local Court on May 8.

Heroin found

About 3:05pm on Thursday, April 13 police were conducting a patrol of Fairfield Railway Station when they spoke with a 42-year-old Bonnyrigg man who appeared to be unable to walk in a straight line.

Checks upon the man revealed he had an outstanding warrant and was subsequently arrested. During the search of the man, police located five clear resealable bags containing 0.79 grams of Heroin.

The man has been charged with possessing a prohibited drug and is due to appear before Liverpool Local Court on April 26.
