Gritty Stallions overpower Olympic in finals series blockbuster.

THE blockbuster has arrived: the game fans should salivate over.

Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Marconi Stallions will meet in the Football NSW premier league major semi-final on Saturday.

Marconi set it up with a 2-0 win over Sydney Olympic in the qualifying final at Belmore Sports Ground on Sunday.

This will be a meeting of neighbours few predicted at season's start, however.

With the best on-paper team, Marconi were always expected to be around come finals time, but not Bonnyrigg.

But Bonnyrigg have more than hung around; they won the minor premiership by a whopping 15 points in a record-breaking season.

Marconi have struggled for most of the time, but now have hit form at the right time.

They hit form in the second half against Olympic, and are through thanks to a double from the sharpshooting Joey Gibbs.

"It was extremely tough," Stallions coach Luke Casserly said.

"I thought we struggled a lot in the first half. We were second to a lot of things and Olympic were really up for it. I thought we may have been a little lucky in the first half, but in the second half I was really pleased with the way the boys played.

"We started to control the game and made our chances. That second goal from Joey Gibbs was all class to finish the game off."

Gibbs struck first in the 50th minute against Olympic when a corner kick was played around by both sides, before the ball fell to him at close range.

Nathan Elasi did the lead-up work in the 73rd minute before Gibbs' great finish did the rest.

But Casserly added: "The reality is that we have to really step it up next week because in our two games against Bonnyrigg this year we really haven't been close to them."
