RETURNING to Fairfield to film the thrilling feature movie Body in the Yard created a sense of nostalgia for former Canley Heights resident Kat Hoyos.
The former Mary Mackillop College student plays the role of Josie in the film, which is based on a true story of a murder in the western suburbs 20 years ago.
Ms Hoyos said she was thrilled to come back to the area in which she grew up to perform a role in one of the "biggest" feature films she's ever appeared.
"I was offered the role just after everything about [convicted wife murderer] Gerard Baden-Clay came out," she said.
"So it was really weird because the storylines were so similar.
"It was a great process for me to do a character like Josie's though because she was crazy and wild."
Ms Hoyos said the essence of the story was how far people will go to get love and attention.
"It's a human need to want love and to feel loved but it's how people do it and to what extent people will go to get their needs satisfied," she said.
While the movie is expected to come out at the end of April next year, Ms Hoyos said it would be released at international film festivals before screening in Australia.
She said she had always wanted to become an actor so featuring in the film was a step in the right direction.
"I am now trying to go to the US to pursue a career in acting and I was fortunate to win a green card lottery ticket and get permanent residency over there," she said.
"One of my big dreams is to make it big in Hollywood so I am now one step closer to achieving that."
