Smithfield teens charged with robbery in company

Five teenage boys have been charged with robbery in company after a man was assaulted and robbed at Milperra earlier this month.

About 11.30pm on August 15, a 39-year-old man was inside his car at a park on Henry Lawson Drive when five men, from Smithfield and Panania, allegedly surrounded him.

Police allege the teenagers opened the doors and punched the man in the head, before dragging him from the car.

The group allegedly took the man’s mobile phone, wallet, as well as a tool box from the car before driving away in another car - a Proton Satria sedan.

The 39-year-old got back into his car and was able to note down the registration number of the other car before calling police.

He sustained lacerations to his face but did not require medical treatment.

Detectives from Bankstown Local Area Command commenced an investigation and following inquiries, arrested five men aged 16 and 17 on August 22.

All five were charged with robbery in company and granted bail.

They will appear at a children’s court on October 8.
