CARRAMAR'S Maria Tran has plenty to smile about after finishing runner up and taking the people's choice award at the multicultural DreamGirl pageant.

The event was held at the Sydney Baha'i Centre in Silverwater recently.

A thrilled Miss Tran said: "It was surprising for me to get two awards because during the process of the pageant, people thought I was shy and the underdog," the 29-year-old said.

"So winning both those titles proved that I made an impression and impact on people."

The independent filmmaker and psychology graduate was among 12 women who vied for the title. The winner receives an all-expenses-paid trip to Bollywood, India.
