THIS week local lads Devante Clut and Matthew Bilic are the big fish in the little pond. That will soon change.
Westfields Sports High School student Clut, 16, and Sydney United junior Bilic, 18, are finalists in Nike's The Chance, a global football talent search.
The pair were two of three finalists selected at the Chance Pacific Finals in Canberra last week.
They will travel to Barcelona FC's youth academy for the finals next month where they will test themselves against 100 other finalists from 55 countries.
"I'm speechless," Clut said of his selection.
"Previously I've gotten to a level where I need to move up, and I've been cut.
"Now that I've finally achieved the success I feel proud of myself and very happy."
Clut was one of the youngest in a three-day camp last week attended by Western Sydney Wanderers' coach Tony Popovic.
For Bilic it was second-time lucky after reaching the Pacific Finals in 2010.
"I knew what to expect which was an advantage," he said.
"I can't wait."
