Police appeal over serious assault in Parramatta

Police have released CCTV images of a man who they believe may be able to assist with their inquiries into a serious assault in Parramatta on June 9.

About 12.30am that day, a man approached another man sitting on a milk crate at the intersection of Darcy and Church streets.

He demanded money before allegedly punching him in the face and forcing him to the ground.

Police were told the man’s face was then stomped on and he was hit with a milk crate.

Another man, sitting nearby, was then allegedly kicked in the chin.

Their attacker was last seen running east on Darcy Street towards Parramatta railway station.

Both men were taken to Westmead Hospital.

The second man sustained a cut chin and was soon released from hospital.

However, the other man sustained a fractured eye socket and a lacerated ear and he remains in hospital, still unidentified.

Police would like to speak to the man shown in the CCTV footage.

He was described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 20-years-old, of medium build, with short dark hair and wearing a light-blue hooded-jumper with red lining on the hood, dark-coloured track pants and blue shoes.

Police urged anyone with any information to contact Parramatta detectives on 9633 0799 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
